As this infographic by Altra asks, why consider footstrike? It’s a very good question, and it should be the primary query on people’s minds when they’re thinking about going minimalist (footwear) or even barefoot. The way your feet impact the ground while running has far-reaching effects on your bones and joints all the way up your posterior chain – not just the foot itself. One should think of the body as an interconnected and synergistically integrated set of components, not independent limbs and muscles.

This concise infographic provides a nice overview of some of the central concerns of efficient (and non-injurious) running form. (Click to view at full size.)

I appreciate you sharing this. I see people every day in my chiropractic practice that injure themselves because of long term running. I tell them to get rid of their shoes. Those that do are able to continue running. Those who don’t continue to get worse over time and arthritic changes continue to get worse.

Yeah, been gone a while. Had to start up some work again to make real money, life is funny like that. Depending how things go this Spring, I may start doing more writing again on a more consistent basis. Thanks!
